Merlyn Baker and Kevin March began a form of this endeavor over 30 years ago in Portland Oregon. While a mistake on the city of Portland's part in the application process foiled that beginning, they've come full circle and are able to complete what was begun but not finished.
Merlyn, after being the executive chef of McCormick's Fish House, became the executive chef of Jakes Famous Crawfish in Portland, before moving to La Grande and beautiful Northeast Oregon to open Foley Station, a much beloved and excellent restaurant, which he ran for 15 years. Kevin established an acupuncture practice in La Grande and has continued that for 25 years, though he never forgot the project that was never completed.
With Merlyn's knowledge expertise, and the backing and support of Kevin and a well trained staff, many of which worked at Foley with Merlyn, Merlyn's Catering opened in 2015. Our desire is to offer a fine dining experience to groups large and small, from cooking classes, to large wedding receptions, from corporate luncheons, to local fundraisers.
Our focus is on ingredients that are as locally sourced, non GMO and as organic as possible. We both live in this area because we want to be here, and feel that using fresh, local and organic is good for the local economy, good for us, and good for you. And, it tastes better.
As people have learned of Merlyn's Catering, it's been fun to hear the stories of their visits to Foley Station. Most tell us of their favorite preparation from Foley, and how they wish they could have it again. We're pleased to say that now you can. And we're happy to do it.
